December’s Featured  Business Owner interview is with Moira Hutchison of  Moira is a a Health & Wellness Practitioner; a Life Coach, Hypnotherapist and Holistic Practitioner… It is her passion and her goal to empower you to get fully in touch with all aspects of you… mind, body, spirit and emotions.  Moira has studied in the fields of psychology, hypnotherapy, personal growth, self empowerment, accounting, business organization and marketing, spirituality, metaphysics and energetic bodywork.

What’s your WHY?  Why did you start your business?

I started my own business to make a difference in the world.  I have experienced some health issues in the past and learned a lot about wellness in mind, body and spirit it is really important to me to educate and hold space for clients to find their own sense of equilibrium.

Is there something that you did that “got the ball rolling” with your business?

I am actually in the process of building my current business model up for the second time!  I left a successful practice behind in Calgary and moved to a more rural setting in Ontario (near Ottawa).

I feel that what has got the ball rolling for me is having a clinic space in Ottawa as well as setting up my home based office.  I can see clients in my home studio as well as over the phone and internet – my office set up allows for the expansion of that.

I really love the area that I live in – it helps me recharge and refocus – which ultimately allows me to me much more present and available to my clients.

What do you do now to continue to generate a profit?  What marketing methods are yielding the best results for you?

I have a complimentary gift available on my website to grow my list.

I write a monthly newsletter full of tips and empowerment.

I also write articles which get printed every month in a local alternative health magazine.

I write articles which are promoted through

I attend networking events every month to promote myself on a local level.

I was using Facebook (I was doing a card reading each day) to build relationships but I found that it was taking up a lot of my time for not very tangible results… I may go back to doing that as I did enjoy providing that service.

Were there any hurdles, obstacles, road-blocks, tears shed or set-backs for you as you created your business?  How did you overcome them?

There have been many hurdles and tears shed for me… it is always important to me to recognize that I am a ‘work in progress’ too and that it is very important to give time for my doing my own inner work.   I do for the most part, walk my talk but I am also a fairly driven personality which can result in experiencing burn out.

To overcome blocks I allow myself space and time, initially to see what I am resisting but then to allow the development of supportive habits and schedules.

Blocks and challenges are gifts which can allow me to develop into a more powerful version of who and what I am – so I embrace them and look for the ray of sunshine.

Do you have any favorite quotes to live and work by?

“Change is good, Donkey”

“I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence, but it comes from within. It is there all the time.” – Anna Freud

“If man understood that “what I create has nothing to do with what anybody else is creating” then he wouldn’t be so afraid of what others are doing.” – Abraham

“Offer a vibration that matches your desire rather than offering a vibration that keeps matching what-is.”  – Abraham

“Do or don’t do – there is no try” – Yoda

“…that you must be good to yourself if you are ever going to be any good for others.” -Neale Donald Walsh

“If we all did the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves.” -Thomas Edison

“We either make ourselves happy or miserable. The amount of work is the same.” -Carlos Castaneda

I could keep going!!  But those are the ones I really love!

What words of wisdom or encouragement could you offer to someone just starting their business?

That they can be, do and have whatever they desire.  If they can envisage it – they can create it.

Ensure that you look after yourself in mind-body-spirit… that will allow you to shoot for the moon (that’s another of my fav quotes!  “Shoot for the Moon – even if you miss you will land in the stars” J).

Networking and connecting with likeminded people is very important – ensure that you set up a solid support structure – it will help you pull through any tough times.

What words of encouragement could you offer to someone that feels afraid, stuck or may be finding themselves at a difficult point in their business?

Acknowledge that you are ALWAYS at the right place, at the right time and that change WILL happen.

Make a list of all of the things that need to be done, perhaps you feel overwhelmed by too much to do and not enough cash flow.  Once you have completed your list, start working on one thing at a time (please do not fall into the multi-tasking trap!).  Some tasks may need to be broken down into smaller projects.

Focus on the good feelings that you are in business for in the first place – do you have a good sense of why you are in this business?  Sometimes overwhelm can happen when we have not given voice to what it is we wish to achieve.

Is there anything that you’ve learned along the way that you wish you had known early on (“Hind sight is 20/20”)?

To pull back into myself when faced with a decision – thus allowing me to be true to my core being and not allow myself to be misled by what others are doing or the offer of a “short cut”.  It is really important to allow intuition to guide me – when I am feeling rushed or pressured I have let that slip!

What is your favorite ‘Rescue Remedy’ – in other words, what do you do to help you through the rough spots?

Going for walks in the woods or by the river, doing cross-stitching – giving myself a time out from the office… Taking Mondays off for me!!

What books do you recommend (business/personal development)?

Gosh – I have read so much over the years – I am an avid reader and it also helps me inspire clients!  I really like the Four Agreements, Fifth Agreement and Master of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz… Conversations With God by Neale Donald Walsh and everything by Abraham-Hicks!!

Finish these statements in regard to business:

Whatever you DO: Network, in person and over the internet.  Coaching is also very important but casual conversations at networking events can really inspire as well as allow you to see – you are not alone!!

Whatever you do, DO NOT: Give up – you started down this path for a reason, if you need to make a change to suit your evolution that’s great… just don’t stop believing in yourself!

What’s the secret to success?

TRUST – I believe that it is very important to always be facing the potentiality of what you are creating and work on scalability to allow you to develop into greater projects and products.  When you trust in the flow of what you are experiencing you will not hinder your progress by focusing upon what has not arrived yet!

Always look after yourself as the sacred, unique being that you are… if you are to be as big a success as you possibly can – you MUST look after yourself first.

When you find a self-limiting belief arise for you (or the Saboteur or Inner Critic) – reach out for support and assistance in releasing the hold that it has over you.

To experience fulfillment in life, you first need to come from a place of inner balance… then you have to understand and formulate what it is you truly want (and what is stopping you)… and then put a committed positive plan of action in place.  It can be difficult to do this on your own because this process will often involve facing some deep rooted and self-limiting beliefs… this is why it is essential to develop a support structure which can grow and change as you grow and change.

Is there anything else you’d like to share or say that would be helpful knowledge to share with women internet business owners either business wise or personal development wise?

It is very important for internet businesses to be available, accessible and visible.  This calls for good marketing strategies, newsletters (or blogs), complimentary products so that people can get a feel for what you are offering.

Women with businesses, whether they are internet based or not, tend to spin many plates and neglect doing their own personal work… even if it is only for 15 minutes per day… I encourage you to meditate daily.
